The Croatian-American Society is honored to invite you to the opening of the exhibition TRADITIONAL HEADGEAR – LIKA CAP AND BASKET HAT on Tuesday, October 1st, 2019 at 7.30 pm, at the Ethnographic Museum, 14 Mazuranic Square.

The exhibition takes place as part of the 13th “Red Rocks Arts and Crafts Festival” with the support of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.

In 2006, the Croatian-American Society in collaboration with the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., launched an international project called the Red Rocks Arts & Crafts Festival.

Our aim is to connect individuals, associations and institutions from Croatia and the United States working in the field of cultural heritage and indigenous creativity, and to present the specific features of Croatian native heritage and art as well as those of North American natives.

Each year, a new topic is selected, a Croatian-American parallel is set up, represented by guest artists from the United States and Croatia through lectures, exhibitions, concerts, workshops and film screenings.

The theme of this year’s 13th festival is traditional headgear, featuring historical models and today’s examples of the preserved art of making Lika’s cap and California’s ‘basket cap’.
